Location: Trinidad and Tobago are the southernmost islands
of the Caribbean archipelago, and are geologically an
extension of the South American continent. Trinidad is
separated from Venezuela by the 7mile / 11km straits of the
Gulf of Paria.
Area: 300 sq km / 116 sq miles.
Climate: Tropical dry with daily sunshine. Average midday
temperature 29 C (85 F). Sea 26 C (79 F). Refreshing trade
winds. Rain season June-November. Warmest months July-
August. Tobago is just south of the hurricane belt.
Time: Atlantic Standard Time, US EST -1, GMT -4.
Population: 54 000.
Language: English.
Religions: Christians.
Capital: Scarborough.
Government: Parliamentary democracy; independent
sovereign state within the Commonwealth.
Entry Requirements: Visiting Tobago as tourist for maximum
90 days must submit one of following documentation:
- A valid travel document.
- Return or onward ticket and other documents required for
the next destination.
- The necessary documents for returning to the country of
origin (valid permanent resident document).
- Proof of sufficient funds to stay in Tobago.
Currency: US$ and Trinidad&Tobago Dollars, abbreviated
TT$, are used parallel. US$ 1 = TT$ 6. Major Credit Cards are
widely accepted. Bring bills of 50 US$ or smaller. Euro is
generally not accepted, however most banks exchanges Euro
and other foreign currencies.
Banking Hours: Mo-Th 8:00am-2:00pm. Fr 9:00am-noon, 2:
00pm-5:00pm. ATMs disburse US dollars.
Medical Treatment / Health care: As protection against the
tropical sun, a sun protection lotion, sunglasses and a hat
are recommended. Tobago has no malaria or similar tropical
diseases. There are no specific Vaccinations required for
visitors to Tobago. All travelers should be up to date on
Routine Immunizations. Check with your personal physician 4
to 8 weeks before travel. Hepatitis A is usually recommended
for all travelers.
All visitors to Tobago should arrange their own travel
insurance before entry on to Tobago. 24 hour emergency
services are available to visitors and residents from the
hospital in Scarborough. There are also private medical
facilities available.
Eat and drink freely.
Drinking Water: Outside resorts, we recommend bottled
water.
What to Wear: Casual tropical wear. Beware of strong
sunshine. Some restaurants prohibit shorts or sandals.
Bathing suits belong to the beach.
What to Bring: Camera batteries, sunscreen, disposable
diapers, sporting goods and books are all generally more
expensive on Tobago. Local stores carry a acceptable
selection of most items.
Cellular phones / Internet: It's always advisable to call your
service provider before you leave your county of origin. Direct
international call from hotel room, hotel internet service.
What to buy: Locally produced souvenirs and craft products.
Tipping: It is customary to tip porters $1 per bag, and taxi
drivers 5-10% of the fare. Restaurants usually include a 10%
service charge to the bill.
Transport: Minibus runs major roads/streets from before
dawn to round 10pm. Taxi: easy to recognize by their signs.
Agree on price before the ride.
Traffic: Drive to the left! Drive easy and safe, especially during
rain..
Driving License: Foreign and international licenses are
accepted. Driver(s) must be over 25 and hold a valid drivers
license
Electricity: 115/230 V./ 60 cycles. Dual voltage appliances
from Europe and South America will need an adapter plug.
Criminality: Tobago is in general considered to be a safe and
secure tourist destination. However, this doesn’t mean that
you should not take the obvious measures of course: use the
hotel’s safe for any valuables, precious jewelries, cash, etc;
don’t leave wallets, purses, cameras, etc out of sight; don’t
leave valuables visible in your parked car, or on the beach.
Note: It is prohibited to collect and export any kind of coral
stones and shells!

Things To Do
Golf Tobago is well designed as a top Caribbean Golf destination. And, green fees are really reasonable here. Mt Irvin Bay Golf Club is a classic and host of international tournaments over the years. Also an 18- hole course, Tobago Plantations Golf Club gives even the experienced and demanding golfer a real challenge. All together, a Golf-Package on Tobago is a reliable investment.
Birdwatching & Wildlife Birdwatching throughout Tobago is first-rate. There are formally-designated sanctuaries like Little Tobago Island, off the coast of Speyside, where the where you can see the White-Tailed Tropicbird soaring and gliding off the windswept cliffs; in March and April, it is possible to get close to the nests and observe the baby birds. Giles Islands, off the north tip of Tobago, is a protected breeding-ground for the magnificent Frigatebird or Man-O-War bird. Over 430 species of birds, and over 600 species of butterflies have been recorded in Trinidad and Tobago. There is also an enormous variety of trees, orchids, shrubs, insects and other wildlife.
Diving & Snorkeling Spayside (north east) is the center for Tobago’s best diving. Clear waters (also during rain season) and healthy reefs is a top ranked Caribbean Diving Experience.
